Cosmetic Orthodontics

This is a branch of dentistry which is concerned with correcting misaligned teeth purely for cosmetic reasons and focuses on the teeth visible when you smile. This is a particularly good treatment if you have suffered mild relapse after orthodontic treatment, or you have misaligned front teeth only. The treatment concepts vary from traditional orthodontics which attempts to align all the teeth and perfect the bite.

Treatment can typically be completed within a short space of time, often much quicker than conventional orthodontics and can produce dramatic results.

There are several types of braces that can be used and each has advantages and disadvantages depending on the individual case hence it is important to have the brace that is recommended to best treat your problem.

Many people are not happy with how their front teeth look when they smile but are put off wearing braces because they don't want to wear visible metal braces for a year or two. The systems we use are rapid and aesthetic orthodontic system that focuses mainly on the front 10 teeth. The speed and less visible appearance of it makes them a highly appealing option that can fit anyone's lifestyle.

Many times treatments are followed up with tooth whitening and then direct bonding to rebuild any chipped/worn teeth. All the treatments require long term retainers.

Quick Straight Teeth Braces

This brace systems both use tooth coloured wires and brackets that are fixed to the teeth. Teeth can be straightened in 4-9 months and the systems use traditional orthodontic mechanics which means teeth are straightened with gentle force in a short space of time. The braces are more visible than Invisalign but comparative treatment times are shorter. Dr Rutter is a Brand Ambassador for Quick Straight Teeth.

Invisalign uses clear thin plastic braces to gently move the teeth. This clear nature makes them nearly invisible at a social distance. Each aligner is worn for 1 week and then replaced with the next one in the series until the teeth are straight. They must be worn for at least 22 hours per day and must be removed for eating, drinking and brushing. This is a benefit as it allows you to eat and clean as normal unlike fixed braces. Specialised computer software is used to design and fabricate the braces so we can preview the final result before we start.

Is Cosmetic Orthodontics for me?
If you feel your teeth are crooked, crowded or with some spaces between them, or you feel they don’t look symmetrical, then there’s a good chance orthodontics will work for you.

When will it not work?
As the dentist, our job is to firstly work out why your teeth are not straight. If the teeth are not straight because of the shape of the jaw or the alignment of the jaws, then orthodontics may not be for you.
